PRESS: Lockdown raises Q2 wireline home Internet subscriber base

MOSCOW, Aug 10 (PRIME) -- The number of subscribers of wireline home Internet in Russia increased by 290,000 households in April–June to 33.79 million amid the COVID-19 lockdown, business daily Kommersant reported on Monday, quoting agency TelecomDaily.

Researcher TMT Consulting said the April–June growth amounted to 270,000 subscribers, while revenue fell by 2% due to various promotion campaigns and special offers.

TelecomDaily General Director Denis Kuskov said that regardless of the rise in the number of new clients, operators find it hard to keep revenue growing. An average revenue per user added only 3 rubles in April–June to 368 rubles and mainly thanks to revisions of archive tariffs.

“If the scenario with self-isolation is not repeated, the market will get back to modest dynamics,” Kuskov said.

In April–June, Rostelecom led with 12.2 million clients, ER-Telecom and MTS followed with 3.8 million clients for each. VimpelCom serviced 2.7 million and TransTeleCom had 1.8 million clients.
